Icelandic waters are home for a mixed bag of whales, albeit a significant number of them just spend the late spring months there. Around 45% of the at present known whale species have their conveyance in European waters and thereof around 23 species happen in the waters around Iceland. Some of them are simply going through and are just seen sometimes. For most whales, however, Iceland introduces great nourishing grounds, where whales spend the whole summer in the pursuit of nourishment.
